The pink mosque was built in 1522 to commemorate the victory of the Sultan on the Knights. Rebuilt in 1808, it remains one of the main places of the city. Its superb but unsafe minaret was removed in 1989 and the once imposing mosque is now sadly closed to the public, pending the end of restoration.
