Lindos - Rhodes

Lindos is a stroke of dazzling white on the rugged and barren slopes of the coastal mountain. The city, built in the sixth century BC, was one of the more powerful of ancient Greece. Its Acropolis overlooks the village and offers a unique and unforgettable view.

But Lindos is also famous for its nightlife. Between the'60s and'70s, before being discovered by mass tourism, it became a destination for artists and writers, bohemians, hippies and rock musicians such as David Gilmour of Pink Floyd or directors such as Bernardo Bertolucci. They came here for the climate, retsina and low prices. They were also attracted by the rustic and healthy life of the inhabitants and began to buy the so-called "captains’ houses", marvels of the local architecture. Protected by high walls, each house has a courtyard entry with a mosaic of black and white pebbles on the floor.

The bay of St. Paul, the most beautiful beach in Lindos, is a natural harbour just below the Acropolis. According to legend, St. Paul arrived here in 58 AD, during his mission to evangelize the island.
