All Rhodes hotels with instant booking
Rhodes is not such a big island and it is quite easy and convenient to travel by bus or with a rented car or motorcycle. It is possible to stay for the entire period in a single location, particularly the old city of Rhodes, and go on day trips every day to visit the different beaches and places of interest.
Bus
The bus station in the city of Rhodes is close to the Nea Agora (New Market), near the port of Mandraki. Destinations and prices can be found at the ticket kiosks.
Tickets can also be bought on the bus from the conductor or even from the driver. The price obviously depends on the destination. For example a trip from Rhodes city to Faliraki will cost around 2 euro. Timetables are not always present at the bus stops, so you better also check the timetable for the return before leaving.
Taxi
In Rhodes taxis are dark blue with a white roof. You can find a list with the maximum applicable charges by taxi drivers at the tourism office. For example, a taxi trip from Rhodes city to Faliraki should cost no more than 13 euro. The minimum charge for each trip is 4 euro. Pay attention to the meter, because many taxi drivers do not use it.
You can call a taxi by dialling 22410 69800. From midnight to 5 you will pay twice the standard rate. The main taxi station is close to the bus station.
Car
It is absolutely not advisable to bring your own car to Rhodes although in theory it would be possible thanks to the ferries. You can hire one at the airport or after you have settled down. The roads are all paved, except in a few stretches in the inland of the island, especially in the south.
Motorcycle
Scooters or motorcycles are popular alternatives to cars. Scooters in particular are frequently used by inhabitants and can go where cars are not allowed to, for example in the narrows streets of Rhodes town. Another advantage is that they are very cheap to rent: 15 euro per day is usually their price and two people can use the same scooter (with helmets).
Petrol stations are not easy to find, so be sure to leave home with the tank almost full. When you pick up the scooter, check its conditions paying attention to tires and brakes.
However, in the streets of Lindos the only means of transportation remains the donkey.
