With its crystal clear water and beautiful beaches, the island of Rhodes is fitting for all travellers who love the sea. The variety of its beaches makes it possible to satisfy every taste, and every spot is easily accessible by car, motorbike and sometimes also by public transport.<h3Map of the beaches of Rhodes
The “all-inclusive-free-child” tourists will crowd mainly in the north east, in Faliraki, Vlycha and Kolymbia. These are, as you might suppose, big sandy beaches with far too many services available. They are the beaches that in high season are filled to the limit and do not have a great fascination. Another beach equipped with umbrellas and beach bars is the one in Elli and has the advantage of being the most close to Rhodes town. All these beaches have the great merit of attracting mass tourism, leaving the other places a bit more relaxing.
Romantic travellers can not miss Lindos and the bay of St. Paul. Enjoy a swim while all the tourists climb by foot or with exhausted donkeys towards the Acropolis of Lindos. The bay of St. Paul is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and pleasant localities: its unusual shape makes it like a swimming pool and the church of St Paul increases its fascination.
Another lovely beach is the one in Ladiko, known as Anthony Quinn bay. The beach is really small and the presence of beach umbrellas still doesn’t affect its beauty. Here the sea is so truly blue, it is difficult to leave in the evening. Not at the same level, but still very beautiful, are the beaches of Afandou, Tsambika, Stegna and Lardos.
The most adventurous will explore the cliffs near the beautiful thermes of Kalithea, getting to the eastern and southern parts of Rhodes until the Prassonissi peninsula. This beach in particular has a very relaxed atmosphere and a special charm. It is a very hospitable resort, not yet reached by mass tourism and is considered to be a paradise for windsurfing. The sandy beach is included between two bays and during the high tide the water partially floods it, offering a truly impressive spectacle. In fact the tongue of land seems to separate two different seas, with their countless waves that come ashore from both the east and the west.
